The Garci...No, this is not the Grateful Dead in 68. The Garcia and Saunders sounds about right - plus John Kahn (on bass) was playing with Garcia and Saunders as well as ended up playing with Butterfield's band shortly thereafter as well.

The Dead's sound was entirely different in 68. Not going to say that it isn't possible that Butterfield took the stage with the Dead in 68, as that is of course still possible too, but this recording is definitely Garcia outside of the Dead. If it were the other way around... then why isn't Bobby playing and there is only one drummer?

(for the record, I taped the Dead and JGB for years so I have a pretty decent ear for eras, line ups, etc)Farrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15979992282217365604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6837130972956938708.post-48570419999196624892021-10-08T10:06:18.205-04:002021-10-08T10:06:18.205-04:00Ron - absolutely at NYC/CP in May 68...I was there...Ron - absolutely at NYC/CP in May 68...I was there. The venue was announced (at least) the night before at the Fillmore East. When we heard this, a buddy of mine and I decided to stay over and get to CP for the event.Jakvanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6837130972956938708.post-71758348515645604622020-07-13T21:03:04.303-04:002020-07-13T21:03:04.303-04:00i have this recording as

This was one of two times that the Dead and Butterfield played at the same venue. the other was 3/22/69 with Jethro Tull also, making a Dead/Butterfield jam unlikely as compared with the free concert in Central Park.Ron Rabatskynoreply@blogger.com
